11 May, 2004 - Onset Technology, a leading developer of enterprise access software for wireless handheld devices, announced new capabilities for its METAmessage Emergency Communications solution which features TeleMessage's Message Delivery Services. The features, designed for use in conjunction with the BlackBerry wireless platform from Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM, TSX: RIM), provide emergency messaging to response teams or other groups that may use a variety of different communications devices including phones (wireless and land-line), pagers, wireless and desktop PC's, fax machines, etc.
The enhanced messaging feature lets an administrator or handheld user send an emergency message, either voice or text, to a group of addressees who may have different types of communication devices. METAmessage, using One to Many Messaging technology from TeleMessage, distributes a message to the preferred device for each addressee - once sent, the same message can be listened to on a phone, read on a pager or wireless email device, opened on a desktop PC, or received as a fax.
According to Gadi Mazor, president and CEO of Onset Technology, "Emergency workers need to communicate using more than just email. These new METAmessage capabilities enable fast and reliable emergency communications to groups using many different methods, and the result will be dramatically quicker and more efficient responses."
METAmessage Emergency Communications capabilities include the patent-pending Emergency Gateway, which ensures that BlackBerry handheld users maintain uninterrupted access to vital data such as Continuity of Operations (COOP) and emergency response (ER) plans in the event of a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Other capabilities include automatic PIN updating, PIN-to-PIN archiving, and message blasting to any type of communications device. Emergency documents and procedures can be stored directly on handhelds, and METAmessage data access capabilities let handheld users access emergency information located in network file servers, document management systems, enterprise applications, and databases using simple forms.
All of the Emergency Communications capabilities are features of METAmessage for Wireless, a complete, out-of-the-box software solution that is a vital part of any BlackBerry deployment. METAmessage currently serves over 1000 enterprise and government agency customers with over 100,000 users.
